92nd Annual Academy Awards
As nightfall approached, illustrious names in Hollywood gathered for an affair commemorating a year at the movies on Sunday, February 9th.
The 92nd Academy Awards called for elaborate gowns, hand-tailored suits, and somewhat provocative garb.
Among the countless notable celebrities include Scarlett Johanson, Brad Pitt, Brie Larson, and Timothee Chalamet (to name a few). Musical luminaries also made an appearance, leaving viewers stunned with their choice in ensemble. Billie Eilish, Elton John, Cynthia Erivo, and others were among those present.
While the Oscars became home to a multitude of guests, sought-after names in pop culture were presumed to be seen at the after party, hosted by fashion publication Vanity Fair.
Prior to the reception, observant viewers may have noticed an overlap in trends sported by celebrities on the carpet. These particular fads ranged from thigh-high slits, decorative ruffles, statement sleeves, lustrous sequin embodied garments, and plunging necklines.
Thigh-High Slit
Coveted supermodel, Hailey Bieber, was among the first to be seen wearing a slit in an otherwise fitted mesh gown. The sheer black ensemble complimented the model’s waistline, while the slit beginning at her thighs expands at the calves. Bieber was audacious in her choice as the look exposed various areas of skin, despite this however, she did not disappoint.
Renowned Victoria’s Secret angel, Adrianna Lima, also opted for similar accents in her getup. The model sported a cream off-the-shoulder gown, with diamontes placed on the borders of her slit.
In the place of the slit, designers Ralph and Russo enclosed the gap with an array of pearls and crystals; Allowing her sense of dress to strike others as distinct.

Ruffles
Charlize Theron, best actress nominee, stunted peers with a metallic one shoulder ruffle dress. This sheen, playful look gave off burlesque vibes as it was adorned with ruffles head to toe.
Similarly, Kim Kardashian, TV personality, also selected ruffles as the point of interest in her ensemble. The fashion mogul donned a Alexander Mcqueen piece, one which was considered vintage as it was a remaining garment from the designer’s 2003 Spring/Summer Collection. The look was said to mimic an oyster shell and its subparts. Whatever the objective, Kardashian pulled off the ‘ruffle’ trend with grace.

Statement Sleeves
Acclaimed actresses, Sandra Oh and Frieda Pinto made quite the statement when promenading about the carpet; More specifically, their sleeves did the job.
Oh opted for a rather exaggerated look this year, unlike others. Her ruffle infested gown, didn’t dare to leave out the drama on the sleeves. With the length just grazing her wrist, the sleeves were embellished top to bottom in jewels, not to mention a skin-tight fit. The dress’s exaggerated qualities however, were centered at her upper arm. A frenzy of ruffles gathered around both shoulders may make others believe the actress wore a puff sleeve, when in actual fact the decor deceived the eye.
Frieda Pinto, on the other hand, did display a ‘puff sleeve’ in her look. The 35 year old wore an emerald green velvet dress, with yet another wide thigh-high slit. Her sleeves were of three quarter length and emulated the ‘balloon style’- allowing her sleeves to qualify as a fashion statement.

Jewels/Metallics
Given that the Oscars are an evening dedicated to Hollywood glamour, a number of stars chose flashy pieces immersed in shimmer and sparkle.
A particular trend I took note of throughout the event were the celebrities’ choice in garments carrying an abundance of jewels.
Makeup sensation and TV personality, Kylie Jenner, was a particular style icon who went for the jewel fad. This strapless number was layered with royal blue diamonds and hugging her every curve, leaving attendees and viewers in awe of her figure.
Another star who embraced lustrous jewels was Salma Hayek. Her short, yet trendy dress could be seen from miles away, given its vibrant color- which could be credited to the sequins sewed on to the garment.
