While Kim Kardashian previously served as a closet organizer to a number of celebrities, the star gained popularity through reality hit show ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians.’
Through the publicity of the show, Kardashian has since been exposed to opportunities in both the fashion and beauty industry, as brands were impressed by her unique sense of style. In fact, this very notion contradicts the statement made by Helen Warner in her article, “Fashion on Television: Identity and Celebrity Culture”, in which she says:
“Indeed for Ellis, it is the supposed lack of ‘glamour’ associated with television personalities which prevents them from achieving ‘legitimate’ stardom.” (Warner 111).
The 39-year-old style mogul (Kardashian) has received majority of her fame through television, as it continues to increase her net-worth and general fan base.
Some may also attribute the icon’s fame due to her impeccable work-life balance. As mentioned in her article, Helen Warner explains the appeal of both motherhood and stardom, she says:
“Moreover, Lively and Parker’s performances of “Working Motherhood” (based either in reality or the imaginary) also support their positions as fashion icons. Their desire for and commitment to motherhood qualifies them as for ‘yummy mummy’ status.” (Warner 117).
As a mother of four, society would expect Kardashian to be occupied in raising her kids and possibly adopting more domestic roles. However, Kardashian manages to raise her kids, run multiple businesses, and continue to serve as a fashion icon; Allowing her to reach peak ‘yummy mummy’ status.
As far as her wardrobe, Kim Kardashian, has been known to utilize elements of husband Kanye West’s style in her personal sense of dress. In fact, West’s clothing collection is often sported by Kardashian herself.
Fans of the show may conclude that Kardashian gravitates towards earthy tones and minimalism in her garments of choice.
As her clothes are oversized, her wardrobe takes precedent over comfort. Although the star’s attire does at times resemble lounge wear, the occasional accessory allow her looks to be categorized as high-fashion.
