R13 NYFW 2020

Notable designers and fashion enthusiasts convene for an evening spent in observation of R13’s Fall/Winter collection, inspired by innovative denim and a punk aesthetic.

Chris Leba, a former designer for the ‘Ralph Lauren’ label, has since shifted to the development of his own brand. A brand which redefines grunge, with the aid of distressed denim, worn-out t’s, fine leather, and tailored silhouettes.

In his current and future collections, the artist hopes to capture the rebellion culture which takes places in the streets and underground locations of New York.

This distinct brand, R13, is amongst those to be showcased at the city’s annual fashion week.

For this year’s Fall/Winter assortment, Leba opts for an edgy, rockish approach to apparel; Perfect for promenading about the streets or perhaps an evening spent at a rock concert. Nonetheless, the garments created by Leba and his team cater to those who adopt monotones in their respective wardrobes and prefer to be as layered as possible.

Animal print is a reoccuring theme in street style, and one that is easy to compliment; Given the right color. A particular look in Leba’s collection which stood out to me personally, was one that utilized the renowned ‘cheetah print’.

Model Valerie Scherzinger, stunned viewers in a cropped jacket, soft in texture and immersed in cheetah print. It is paired with black jeans which run skinny at the waist and eventully grow wider at the thighs. The jeans also include cuffs at the end which run a deeper shade than the top half, allowing for a hint of contrast.

Sitting at the model’s waist is a chunky black belt, with silver accents and embellishments; Releasing old western rock vibes. For shoes, the model sported a pair of bulky combat boots completing the ‘grunge’ aesthetic.

In the preceding look, model Tang He, sports a similar pant to Scherzinger, in addition to an oversized trenchcoat. With its elaborate buttons, the coat provides a classy touch to an otherwise streetwear ensemble.

Yet again, Leba uses dark hues in order to compliment different elements of the outfit to one another. His choice of a royal blue trench coat to pair with hunter green boots makes it easy on the eyes.

He’s black top hat is a reoccuring theme throughout Leba’s show, and one that ties his looks together.

Another component running through his show is his use of black chokers, with an ornate silver pendant; The accessory contributes to the ‘punk rock’ getup evident in Leba’s collection and overall vision.
