2020's (S)ity Street-Style

As a leading component of fashion capitals across the globe, New York is notorious for its avant-garde approach to style; Specifically, in contemporary street-wear.

After a day spent amongst various trendsetters and fashion enthusiasts, I managed to capture a few moments which deemed noteworthy on the streets of ‘The Big Apple’.

Business Casual

Exploring the streets of Dumbo, Brooklyn, I came across a young woman who centers her personal style around modesty.

In a casual get-up, she sports the structured shirt complete with stripe accents on its sleeves.

This particular garment can be worn in both formal and informal settings as its simplicity and level of comfort allow for great versatility.

As it is considered a staple, this classic button-up can be found in stores similar to Zara, H&M, Nordstrom, and others.

Spring (T)eady

Spotted prancing about the streets of Soho, New York, this young lady was seen embracing the comfort of her oversized trucker jacket.

A trucker jacket is defined as a boxy-fit overcoat, most suitable for Fall or Spring attire.

The soft texture of the jacket could be attributed to the fabric, which the fashion world classifies as ‘Teddy.’ The formal term however, is ‘Mohair fabric’, made from sheared wool of an angora coat.

As the jacket has a bulky fit, the model paired the garment with skin tight black jeans and a tan basic tee to compliment the colors surrounding the overall look.

Kid in Mom Jeans

Opting for vintage garb, this model steps out in the decadent alley ways of New York City.

Her look is comprised of a long-line overcoat, a striped tee, a pair of classic high-top black converse, a tan satchel, clear circular frames, and the time-honored ‘Mom Jean.’

Mom Jeans are a trend hailing from the 90s, however have made a striking comeback in recent times.

The jeans tend to hug the waist and fall tapered at the ankles. The high-waisted number also has an overall baggy fit and is best paired with relaxed tees and a pair of athletic sneakers.

Chelsea Kicks in Chelsea, NY

While this particular model’s outfit releases elements of fall style, her shoes are the point of attraction in the shot.

The model sports a form of ‘Chelsea’ Boots, boots that reach the ankle and are categorized as close-fitting.

The brand she opts for are Doc Martens, a label notorious for its variations of the ‘boot’ shoe style.

These black kicks are best paired with sophisticated looks (as seen in the picture). They can add a sense of edge to an ensemble and allow the look to appear costly.

Trendsettin’ Trench

For years, the trench coat has been considered a staple in urban street-wear. Specifically, its minimalistic qualities allow the garment to be both dressed-down, and dressed-up.

The garment brings an element of sophistication to any get-up as its straight cut, long length, and broad shoulders tend to highlight a woman’s figure in an elegant manner.

The model in the photo chose a similar color palette to compliment her trench. In fact, she chose autumnal shades, fit for a breezy day in the city.

Belts N’ Buckles

While most accessories tend to become outdated in the world of fashion, belts are a particular trend which has deemed timeless.

On the streets of New York in 2020, we see the emergence of circular buckles used to clench in the waist of those sporting the accessory.

The accent provides a new twist to the classic belt and tends to make looks appear more opulent
